Oral Hygiene
At the Alcoforado Clinic, the prevention of oral diseases is our main purpose. For this reason, before starting any treatment, the golden rule is that our Patients should leave the first appointment with the proper training on all oral hygiene techniques that are appropriate to their condition, provided by our Team of Hygienists.
During these appointments, we transmit different knowledge, namely:
— Brushing, with the Bass technique (brushing technique recommended by the clinic), at least twice a day. This is taught directly to the patient, using their mouth as a practical example, with a brush that meets their needs;
— Correct use of the electric brush, since brushing with the electric brush is very different from brushing with the manual brush. A direct demonstration is made, using the Patient’s mouth as a practical example;
— The indispensable interproximal cleaning techniques for maintaining good oral health. This is taught directly to the patient, using their mouth as a practical example, with the help of dental floss, interdental brushes of different diameters, easy floss, and soft picks, among others, according to the needs of each Patient;
— The appropriate choice of toothpastes and mouthwashes;
— Advice on the most appropriate diet to maintain a good oral condition.
At oral hygiene appointments, which will usually be performed every 6 months (for patients without other associated pathologies), we are able to help the Patient adhere to careful oral hygiene. If partial or complete rehabilitation with implants has been performed, these regular appointments also help adhere to these treatments for many years.
We also perform treatments like root planning which are fundamental in the treatment of periodontal disease. Following these treatments, periodic periodontal maintenance is indispensable.
We remove tartar (solidified bacterial plaque), responsible for the inflammation of the gums, which may also be the cause of halitosis (bad breath).
We perform the maintenance of all partial or full protheses on implants.
We also provide the service of tooth whitening. If necessary, patients can do it at home or at the Clinic, depending on the requirements of each clinical case.
