Mundo a Sorrir

ITS MISSION IS THE PROMOTION OF HEALTH AND ORAL HEALTH AS A UNIVERSAL RIGHT. ITS VISION SEEKS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO AND THE CONDITION OF BOTH ORAL AND GENERAL HEALTH IN PORTUGAL AND PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING AFRICAN COUNTRIES, WITH AN AIM TOWARDS SOCIAL INCLUSION, COOPERATION AND DEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORT.

Mundo A Sorrir is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), founded in July 2005 in Porto, to operate in the areas of Health, Oral Health and Healthy Lifestyles among populations in vulnerable socio-economic situations. Its MISSION is to promote health and oral health as a universal right. Its VISION is to improve access to and the condition of both oral and general health in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with an aim towards social inclusion, cooperation and development support. And as VALUES: — WELL-BEING Well-being is the complete satisfaction of the individual from an organic, physical, mental and social point of view, as determined by social integration, satisfaction and happiness. — SERIOUSNESS Seriousness characterises the integrity of character of those who work, support, and commit themselves daily to promoting Mundo a Sorrir for the benefit of the world. — KNOWLEDGE Solidarity represents the concept of relations and equality, of concern and sharing with others and the community. Additionally, it represents a value and a feeling, which despite individual, brings group members together around a common purpose, to achieve a collective vision. — CONHECIMENTO Knowledge represents the act or effect of knowing oneself and others, through a rational method with concrete evidence and methodologies. We intend for the actions performed by Mundo a Sorrir to have an increasingly scientific basis and an important role in the management of knowledge.

Gil Alcoforado joined the Association as President of the General Assembly at its inception. He is now also an associate and volunteer.

In 2003, he volunteered for the ‘Aprender a ser saudável’ [Learning to be healthy] project in Cascais, at ATL da Galiza, where he taught several children how to perform correct oral prophylaxis.

He was also a volunteer for the ‘Saúde a Sorrir’ [health with a smile] project carried out in São Tomé and Príncipe, where he taught children between 6 and 10 years of age all about primary oral preventative health.

The Alcoforado Clinic has always supported the Association, promoting it across borders with the aim of finding ‘premium sponsors’.
